Society Meetings
Meetings are held regularly throughout the season (September to May inclusive) on the second Thursday of each month. Meetings begin at 7.15pm and are usually concluded by 9.30pm.

November sees the return of our regional meetings and we have two evenings arranged for this month both of which will, I am sure, prove very attractive to our membership.

The first and our next meeting will be held on Thursday 15th November 2007 at the Old Salesians FC clubhouse Salesian College Playing Fields Old School Lane Ewell West Surrey KT17 1TJ Tel: 020 8393 9820

PETER GEORGIOU
Level 4 Referee and chairman of the FA Referees Committee
"CLIMBING THE REFEREEING LADDER and 10 WAYS AN ASSISTANT CAN HELP OR HINDER HIS REFEREE"

Using DVD & Media projector Peter will offer guidance on how to make progress within refereeing drawing on the time he has spent on the ladder and counsel the best ways to get the best out of your assistants.

Peter is a successful Level 4 Referee, FA International Futsal Referee and FA Referee Licensed Instructor and has been a Society member for some 16 years.  He officiates on the line of the Conference South and Contributory League and the middle of the Suburban Football League and on midweek evenings on the Capital League.

 This evening will offer personal reflections on: -

  • Climbing the Refereeing Ladder
  • Ten ways in which the Assistant Referee can help (or hinder!) the Referee
This will be an interactive talk including a question and answer session

RAY OLIVIER
FA Regional Manager and Level 1 Referee
"WATCH THIS SPACE"

Ray Olivier is 49 years old, married to Lorraine and has two children, Stuart aged 22 and Laura aged 19.  Ray started his work career as an engineering apprentice in 1975 with Lucas in Birmingham, progressed through into training management in 1986 and then into human resources management 1999.  In September 2001 Ray joined the Football Association as a regional referees manager.

Ray commenced his refereeing career in April 1980 with Birmingham County FA. In 1993, he was promoted to the National List of Assistant Referees and served for 5 years on the FA Premier League and Football League.   In 1998/99 Season, he was promoted to the National List of Referees. Ray retired from the National Referees List at the end of Season 2006/07. He was fortunate to have officiated as a Referee, Assistant Referee or 4th Official at 87 out of 92 (current) professional clubs in England.

Ray qualified as a FA Licensed Referees Instructor in 1990 and has considerable experience with all levels of referee training, including experience of training International and National List Officials as well as delivering training internationally to top referees in Bermuda, Trinidad  & Tobago, Mali, Ethiopia, Denmark, Iceland, Belgium, Malaysia, Qatar, Ecuador, Venezuela and Peru.

In his role as Regional Referees Manager for the Midlands Region, Ray has responsibility for seven County Football Associations: Birmingham, Derbyshire, Herefordshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire and Worcestershire.  The purpose of his role is to identify with County FA’s and Area Training Teams in the region the current numbers and activities of referees at each level against the number of referees required to fulfil the FA Refereeing department’s aim and to follow the progress of referees in the region and provide training, development, support and encouragement.

 Ray is also the National Manager for Referee Instructor training.  The purpose of his role is to set and maintain national standards in respect of referee instructors through the provision of structured training programmes His responsibility also includes the Advanced and International Courses for Referee Instructors. The FA now conducts these courses annually with over 22 countries being represented.
