Mentors
Mentors Required

The AFA & London Society of Association Referees operates a mentoring scheme for all new AFA referees. The AFA now trains more new referees than ever before.

Could you help to fill the gaps by volunteering to become a mentor? It would be a huge benefit to football, the AFA, AFA refereeing and our society.  Mentoring need not take up a great deal of time and the society provides all the basic administration and written guidance.  Mentors are asked only to:

  • telephone/e-mail the mentoree
  • offer advice about refereeing
  • keep in contact
  • encourage the mentoree to referee
  • encourage the mentoree to join our society
  • (only if time and circumstances allow) watch the mentoree refereeing and offer friendly advice.

Watching the hugely beneficial effect good advice provided by mentors has on new referees is highly rewarding. It can help establish friendships and camaraderie and makes good provision for the future of the game and refereeing.

To find out more about the society mentoring team please contact Gordon Kirby (for contact details see Who's Who).
